Hello lovelies!
If you’re interested in how I managed to revive my dead locks from years of damage, keep on reading. I have naturally really curly hair and have always tried to find ways to get it straight. Many years ago I did the Japanese straightening treatment, which completely ruined the texture of my hair. I’ve done blonde highlights in high school that fried my hair and I never used a heat protectant spray while straightening. To try and reverse the damage, my hairstylist at the time forced me to chop off my hair and gave me a bob cut that I hated. I never went back to him. I ended up going to a good friend of mine who is so talented. She has done wonders for me. Below I will share my very simple routine and products that I use now. I’m certainly a minimalist when it comes to my hair.
Cut and color
I try and cut my hair every 8-10 weeks. I ask my lovely stylist to give me a trim in order to get rid of any split ends and further breakage. With consistency and better care, I don’t need to cut off as much each visit. In doing so, my hair has been able to grow longer and healthier.
We always do a darker glaze with blue tones, a gloss for shine and a hair treatment for nourishment. I prefer to do the glaze over hair dye as it is a much healthier alternative for coloring your hair. The glaze coats and enriches your hair with a beautiful color, conditions it and adds lots of shine. The product is ammonia and peroxide free which is perfect for my hair type. The only caveat (which is not an issue for me) is that you can only achieve darker colors.
This last time I tried a new hair treatment called “Olaplex No. 2 Bond Perfector”, which is designed to rebuild and restore broken hair bonds. The treatment makes your hair healthier, shinier and stronger.
Hair Products
Currently I am using the “Kenra platinum revive shampoo and conditioner”. Every other week I use the “Moehair Gold hair mask” to deep condition my locks.
After I shower, I towel dry my hair and massage a small amount of “Caviar lengthening elixir” to my scalp. The product is formulated to treat the scalp and condition your hair strands. The serum is very light and absorbs quickly. I don’t like to use too many hair products that weigh my hair down. The serum is paraben, sulfate and phthalate free.
After this, I spray “Tresemme heat tamer protective spray” all over my hair. To prevent breakage, I don’t use my brush until my hair is about 80 percent dry.
Lastly, I spray my hair again with the heat protectant spray and use a flat iron to straighten it to perfection.
Some articles state that you should change your shampoo every so often, but after reading articles on the topic, I learned that this is a myth. Your hair doesn’t get used to the formula of the products but has different needs depending on seasonal shifts, dietary changes, aging and over processing.
I’m always curious to learn about new hair hacks or products, so please do share in the comments below.
