MICRONEEDLING .

I’m not one to get into complicated skincare regimens. I’ve always thought that less is more, therefore I’m very simple when it comes to makeup and hair. I’ve had a few facials in my life but have never found them to do anything drastic for me. This may be due to my lack of consistency. I’ve reached an age where I need to start paying better attention to my skin in order to maintain my youthful glow. After doing some research on effective skincare routines, I decided to give micro needling a try.

WHAT IS IT

Microneedling is a procedure where tiny needles are used to puncture the very top layer of the skin. These micro-injuries are invisible, yet effective in rejuvenating the skin. Our body’s wound healing process creates cell turnover that leads to the production of collagen and elastin. The procedure helps reduce the appearance of fine lines, dark spots, acne scars and overall texture of your skin.

BENEFITS

– Early signs of aging

– Fine lines and wrinkles

– Evening skin tone and texture

– Dark spots

– Enlarged pores

– Acne scars

– Blackheads

– Exfoliating the skin

PROCEDURE

FIRST and foremost, be sure that the place you get your microneedling done is credible and uses safe practice methods. We are working with needles, and cleanliness is extremely important. I read an article where a practice in New Mexico used old needles for the procedure and gave HIV to a few of their clients. (YIKES)

ASK your technician to open the needle packaging in front of you so you can feel safe and comfortable throughout the process.

Now back to the good stuff!

My lovely technician and I decided not to use a numbing cream because she claimed the pain isn’t as bad as one would imagine. Also my pain tolerance is quite high so I didn’t feel like waiting 45 minutes for the numbing cream to take effect.

She turned on the fogging machine to open up my pores and then proceeded to clean my makeup off. She then put on a serum on my face and started the microneedling process. I wouldn’t say that the procedure was painful, but more so uncomfortable. She started from my hairline and worked her way down to my neck. The duration of the process was approximately 20 minutes, which is a lot less than I expected. When she was done, she put on protective serums and I was ready to go on with my day. Do make sure that you have no plans for the next few days as your face will be bright red. I looked like I had fallen asleep under the sun with sunglasses on.

My technician advised me not to touch my face the first day. In the morning you can wash your face with a gentle cleanser. Make sure to keep your face moisturized (one that has hyaluronic acid in it) and use a mineral sunscreen if you’re going outdoors. Be sure to protect your skin!

I didn’t wear makeup until 2 days after the treatment. The redness reduced substantially the next day, and by the second day it was gone. I had mild peeling on certain parts of my face for a few days, but luckily nothing more major. You will be able to see full results in 4-5 weeks after your procedure.

It is recommended to do 3-4 microneedling treatments per year, but for now I plan on doing this twice a year. I can already notice the firmness in my skin and I can’t wait for my full results in the upcoming weeks. I would definitely do microneedling over regular facials as it isn’t only working on the top layers of your skin.

Let me know if you’ve tried the treatment and what your experience with it has been!

Don’t hesitate to message me if you have any questions!

Have a fantabulous day lovelies!
